British Dock Strike Troop Use Indicated
London reports a government hint that troops may be deployed to unload ships if dockers do not return to work. Labor Minister Monckton warned the 16 day strike threatens exports, food supplies and broader unemployment. Ports at Southampton and Liverpool feel the impact as unions clash with strikers. The Queen Elizabeth prepared to sail to the United States with Queen Mother Elizabeth aboard amid tensions. A large strike by London bus drivers and conductors collapsed as others remained out.
