San Francisco Rallies for Gen Ike Draw 29 000 Crowd
Dwight D. Eisenhower drew a massive 29 000 crowd at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, marking one of the city’s largest political gatherings in years and signaling a strong Republican challenge to Democrats for California’s 32 electoral votes. Police counted about 100 000 cheering in downtown San Francisco and thousands more at Sacramento, Berkeley, Vallejo, and Martinez as part of a wave of Ike support.
