Six ships were ordered to stand offshore as visibility sank to 15 feet, with harbor traffic resuming as conditions improved. One fatality occurred in Lynwood after a car crash amid the dense haze.

Sealed Beach woman to share multimillion estate
A Seal Beach widow, Mrs. Ernestine Goetz, plans to share a West Virginia multimillion dollar estate with two heirs after a Supreme Court reversal. The estate in question stems from Miss Jennie Goetz, an eccentric aunt of Mrs. Goetz’ late husband, and involves about two to four and a half million dollars in bonds securities and business property. Ralph Goetz and Carl Goetz, two brothers, are among the heirs. The family says the total could reach $4.5 million, with Ralph pledging to give much to underprivileged children. He declined further comment. Ernestine Goetz refuses interviews, saying she is grateful and unwell.
