Warren Anderson, an oil company employee from Clyde near the Contra Costa Canal, writes to President Eisenhower requesting a fence for the unprotected canal where his 3-year-old son Joe died. He asks the canal be fenced, arguing it belongs to the U.S. and placing responsibility with the President.
NORWALK A 24-year-old Bell Gardens man Chester C Pepper was arrested after a 20 minute rampage crashing a late model car through fences and into cars trees and houses and attempting to run over a man and woman Deputies said Pepper admitted drinking and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and drunkenness Marines helped subdue him after he struck a Marine and damaged properties in the 11400 block on Elizabeth Street during the spree
Douglas Skyrocket flies at 1327 mph two times the speed of sound setting a new world speed mark at Edwards AFB. Test pilot Scott Crossfield reports a three minute flight consuming three tons of fuel. The Skyrocket also holds the altitude record of 83,235 feet.
A 9 year old daughter of a U S Army colonel was found in a drainage ditch and died shortly after. The attack on an army base triggered a large manhunt by American and Japanese authorities.
