Washington AP report says Communists agreed to a Western offer for exchange of sick and wounded prisoners in Korea and proposed immediate renewal of armistice negotiations. State officials including Secretary Dulles called the move unconditional acceptance of the Feb 22 U.S. proposal.
News from Seoul reports battle actions near Vegas as U S Marines defend outpost lines while Chinese forces renew pressure. The armistice talks stall over Communist demand for universal repatriation and U N opposition to forced return. U S officials cite Geneva Convention based sick and wounded exchange as voluntary, with cautious hope for broader prisoner talks.
Two New York Central passenger trains and derailed freight cars collided near the Pennsylvania border at state line curve. In Sacramento, State Sen Harold T Johnson author of SB1922 says he and Sen Harry L Parkman faced threatening letters. Letters warned that SB1922 passing would lead to harm at home. Johnson received a signed letter with no address, Parkman received one with an address but no name. Critics of SB1924 staged protests ahead of April 7 committee hearing.

Tokyo reports the U N prisoner of war command says several thousand Red captives may be eligible for release to home under a possible exchange. Over 2500 are under care at the Pusan command hospital with many amputees and wounded. many more suffer tuberculosis dysentery and other illnesses. An on going hospital established near Pusan uses Korean staff. As of March 1 the hospital population stood at 2619.
Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens left Washington for a six day tour to inspect ammunition supplies in Korea. He stopped at Fort Clark headquarters and may visit the Korean front as Senate hearings begin on claims of a serious wartime ammo shortage. Steam forward testimony planned on return from the Far East.
In Dallas a milkman named William Giddens, 40, wrecked his truck to avoid striking a 12-year-old boy, Roland D. Martin. He lost his right leg and broke the left. he saved the boy's life and received praise and donations totaling 2925 dollars from the community.
