San Diego Welcomes 1st Marines Home From Korea
A 5,500 man vanguard of the 1st Marine Division returned to San Diego aboard five transports as crowds lined the bay. Fireboats sprayed water, planes roared above, and water skiers skimmed in harbor for a festive homecoming. Governors officers and civic leaders welcomed the Leathernecks, who had served in Korea for nearly five years, with brief addresses and a parade through Balboa Park.
