Kidnaped Compton Girl Seen on Skid Row

Police renewed renewed search for Stella Darlene Nolan eight year old of Compton missing since Saturday night in Norwalk. A girl answering her description was seen with a man near Skid Row before dawn and investigators pursued a suspect with prior molestation charges. Door to door checks, calls from the public and a large posse followed as officers sought the middle aged man described by the child’s mother. Stella wore blue denim overalls and a white terry cloth sweater and is four feet tall weighing about 50 pounds.

Cool Zephyrs Bring Relief to Central

Cool air spread across the mirewest bringing relief from oppressive heat in many areas while the south and parts of the east faced high temperatures. A cold front and thunderstorms moved east toward the Appalachians, dropping temperatures to normal in the central Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes region. The cooling expanded into New England and the Mid Atlantic as the heat wave persisted elsewhere, with at least 128 deaths attributed to heat.

Chicago El Trains Hit Injuring At Least 32 People

A four coach Austin train rammed into a standing eight coach Englewood train at Sheridan Road and Irving Park Boulevard. Southbound rush hour service continued with trains rerouted. At least 32 injured, 26 to American Hospital, several seriously hurt. witnesses described panicked crowds and shattered glass.

Chinese POW escape and recapture near Pusan camp

About 100 Chinese prisoners of war escaped a U N prison camp near Tongnae five miles north of Pusan but were quickly recaptured by South Korean police. Some escaped detainees reportedly sought shelter among Chinese residents while others were returned to Allied control. North Korean anti Red prisoners were also freed on Cheju Island amid demonstrations and disorder.

Auto collision cuts power in Alameda Circle area

A speeding car crashed into an Edison pole on Lakewood Blvd near the Traffic Circle, snapping the base and causing a citywide blackout in the Alameda Circle district. Ike Reed Jr., 28, of Los Angeles, was severely injured with multiple fractures and trapped for 30 minutes until Edison crew cut lines. Power loss affected lines from North Long Beach substation to local facilities, with 12 000 and 4000 volt lines down and clocks in homes and street lights stopped as crews cleared the scene.
