Marine pilot dies after plane crashes near El Toro

2nd Lt. Myron H. Schling 24 of Dubuque Iowa died from burns at Santa Ana Community Hospital after his Skyraider crashed following an engine failure during takeoff from El Toro Marine Air Station. Rancher Eugene Banks of Irvine pulled him from the burning wreckage and suffered burns himself. The crash occurred near Highway 101 as Schling attempted to return to the station. He is survived by his parents. VMAT-10 also lost Capt. Shirley W. Reese earlier in the week in a separate crash.

Man Dies of Stabbing After Row With Wife

A 46 year old San Diego painter John S Wech died from a stab wound after an early morning confrontation with his estranged wife Kathleen at 6841 E Compton Blvd Norwalk. The couple argued and he allegedly attacked her before collapsing in the kitchen. Welchs sister Bonnie Garnett and friend James Poore were present and heard him threaten to harm himself.

30 Trapped for 14 Hours in Snow Safe

Twenty sightseers and two bus drivers trapped for 14 hours by four foot snow drifts atop Mt Evans near Denver were rescued with help from a highway snowplow and other equipment. All passengers escaped with no ill effects after the late week storm stalled a Gray Line Bus Tours vehicle and two cars on the mountain, about 50 miles west of the city.

Auto Rams Bus in Peru Crash Kills Two, Injures Forty-One

A chartered bus carrying women from St Pauls Guild of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Indianapolis collided with a car on LA 31 near Peru. The car occupants Cline Loy and Robert Turner of Kolsormo were killed. Forty-one injured, many from the church group en route to St Marys College Notre Dame and Chicago for a pilgrimage.

Reds mass 16 000 troops along front in Korea drive

AP reports 16 000 fresh Communist troops moved to the eastern front as the two sides fought over POW releases and a possible armistice. South Korea’s acting premier Pyun demanded freedom for 9 000 anti Reds in Allied stockades while Rhee warned Clark against actions fueling Korean masses. More than 26 000 anti Red prisoners have escaped stockades since Wednesday.

Rosenbergs Executed and Global Demonstrations

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed at Sing Sing Prison for delivering atomic bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. They faced the electric chair after their 14th wedding anniversary, refusing to talk. Crowds demonstrated in New York, London, and Paris as police and protesters clashed elsewhere.

Ten-year-old mother bears six pound girl in Ohio home

In Youngstown a 10-year-old gave birth to a 6 lb infant at the Florence Crittenton Home as welfare officials arranged for adoption. The fifth grade mother, born Feb 18, 1943, weighed 115 pounds and stood five feet three inches. A 50-year-old man from her apartment building was named as the child’s father. The AMA says it knows of at least two American girls under 11 who had full term births.
