County School Chief Seeks Negro Hiring Policy Stance
LOS ANGELES County Supt. C. C. Trillingham says more than 150 Negro teachers have been denied jobs across 82 county elementary districts amid a teacher shortage. He notes districts hire white teachers with provisional credentials, while requests for 884 teachers remain unfilled in districts not hiring Negroes. Trillingham says prejudice isn’t real, urges merit based hiring, cites Santa Monica and Altadena cases and says only Willowbrook, Compton, and Monrovia districts will hire Negro teachers.

A front impact from a truck killed Myron Bo of Dunlap, aged 55, and left Hawley, Minn., resident Melvin Dauner as the driver. The crash occurred as a transport truck rear-ended the auto near York’s Empire State building site, with authorities noting the tower would boost TV transmission range and reduce reliance on indoor aerials.
