End of Doctor Draft Act Urged by Medical Groups
Washington doctors and dentists urged the end of the Doctor Draft Act before the Senate Armed Services Committee. AMA and ADA officials argued the draft discriminates against physicians by forcing them into service while civilians with similar status are deferred. They noted high ratios of medical experts in the military and called for reconsideration as the act’s separate drafts for youths 18 to 26 and medical specialists up to 50 years were set to expire.
