Two Men Drift All Night in Life Jackets After Boat Sinks

William Fullenwider, 48, died on arrival at Harbor General Hospital after he and Charles Markham, 40, of Van Nuys, drifted in life jackets for hours when their 36 foot fishing vessel Las Tunas sank four to five miles off the San Pedro entrance. Markham was saved and severely exposed. They were rescued by the tug Matilo at about 6:30 a.m. on Monday.

Fiery two-car crash kills ten near Lyons Creek

In Owings Maryland an early morning head on collision between two autos near Lyons Creek killed ten people. Vehicle driven by Robert E. Abell 24 of Silver Spring Md in wrong lane collided with a second car carrying Clarence F Thomas 34 of Olivet Md. Victims include John Schweinhout 24 Robert Schweinhout 20 Wilton Stottlemyer 20 and an unidentified boy about 15 from Silver Spring and Earl McCreagy 24 and Mrs Benjamin Thomas 55 from Oliver Md plus Norman T Carey age unavailable. All occupants perished and none survived. Police and fire units, including assistant chief Thomas Bnzzolo of the North Beach volunteer fire department, responded to the blaze.

Transatlantic Call Averts Death by Own Action

A Burlingame woman, Elizabeth Evans, 39, survived an overdose after a transatlantic call to London. John Hurd, 45, of an American airline, heard a thud and alerted police when a note from Evans said she could not face life without him. The couple’s marital triangle involved Hurd and his wife Cecilia, who was reconciled with him. Assertions of reconciliation were made by Mrs Hurd, while Evans’s past marriages are noted.

Long Beach Motorist Killed Crashing Barrier

A Long Beach man, James Alexander Meller, 39, of 782 Roswell Ave, died after his Volks Wagen crashed through a center barrier on Carson Street near Heather Road, tumbled into a 14 foot excavation, and rolled onto its right side. He suffered a fractured collarbone, crushed chest and windpipe and died at Com Immunity hospital about an hour later. Witness Erle Drake, 1815 Pacific Ave, saw the crash. The body was taken to Christianstn-Pine Mortuary. Kathleen Meller of San Diego is listed as a nearest relative.

Beachside stabbing injures youths in Huntington Beach

A 16 year old Long Beach boy Ernest Munyon was stabbed in the stomach during a beachfront clash that left three other youths and a man injured. Police said the attack, at the Long Beach strand near Linden Ave, involved six assailants and prompted calls for more beach patrols.

Jobless total falls in May by 160000
