Torrance Oil Flow Likely to Continue
Oil has lubricated Torrance’s economy for 25 years and is expected to remain vital. The Torrance oil field, discovered in 1921, shows about 725 producing wells in a belt near the city’s south, with Standard and Superior Oil Co among major operators. Daily per-well output sits around 10 barrels, likely stable while crude prices stay high. Through last year the field produced over 127 million barrels from 5798 acres, per the State Division of Oil & Gas. The General Petroleum Co refinery in the north employs about 1,000, with 40 million dollars capital and a 100,000 barrel daily capacity, producing gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and other products, and has expanded since 1929.
