Law to Ease U.S. Entry for Mexican Workers
Washington January 13 1948 legislation to ease temporary entry of Mexican laborers for seasonal farm work faced opposition from the State Department and the Federal Security Agency. Senate Judiciary subcommittee heard California and Arizona agricultural spokesmen urging the measure. The bill by Senator Anderson would let western hemisphere workers enter if the Agriculture Secretary certifies domestic farm labor is inadequate, with entry under border crossing ID. critics warn relations with Mexico could suffer and the FSA demands minimum wage housing and health standards.
