ISTANBUL July 10 Turkish doctors report a freak birth to a 23 year old woman producing a male baby with two heads four arms and three legs. The living infant is under close examination at the City Hospital at Eskishehir a large city between here and Ankara. Doctors call the case an extreme rarity.
NEW ORLEANS July 10 Four government scientists report chemical sprays cutting losses in stored grains by slowing seed breathing. Directing the work Dr. Aaron Altschul of the Agriculture Department southern regional lab says results look favorable, with sprays as effective as repeated cooling in tests on cottonseed and rice. Mills in Georgia Alabama Louisiana and Texas test sprays commercially.
A former classmate recalls Tennessee Williams and markets a failed play set in a plush hospital anteroom. The fringe piece ends with the dying millionaire and a blunt reveal about truth and pride as Broadway is urged to take the script.
BELGRADE July 10 Hundreds of Yugoslavs who returned from Canada and Australia have their passports confiscated and cannot seek service from those countries. With Yugoslav law denying further recourse, repatriates must stay despite desire to return home or emigrate. Some sought relatives or a second homeland, but authorities have kept them, though many received good treatment and jobs as technicians. A few, dissatisfied, have appealed to British and Canadian consulates to no avail.
In East London a tenant won half the rent after claiming he lived in a doghouse due to a landlord’s dog. Tribunal chairman Michael Marcus likened the landlord to Caligula and noted laws from parliamentary democracy. The rent dropped from 30 shillings per week to 15 shillings.
Former residents of Oregon and Washington and their friends in Southern California will meet at Bixby Park next Saturday. Basket dinners start at noon followed by a program at 1 30 p m. All former residents and tourists from these states are invited.
