Eye New Try for Transit Conciliation
Federal conciliator Harry Malcom may meet both sides today in the 18 day strike against the Los Angeles Transit Line. Little hope for early settlement as union members rejected the company’s final offer of 12 cents per hour over two years, while the union sought 20 cents. The current pay rate was 1.91 dollars per hour. Spokesmen for Division 1277 of the AFL Amalgamated Assn. of Street Electric Railway and Motor Coach Employers of America said the union is ready to take the dispute to arbitration.
