Beard Gains Steal of Year With Seals Bargain Deal
Ted Beard, ex star for the Hollywood Stars, is hailed as the Seals’ steal of the year after San Francisco acquired him for around $5,000. At 33, Beard leads as top hitter with a .351 average and solid defense, though his big home run power remains limited. The deal, praised by Seals president Damon Miner and coach Tommy Heath, is viewed as a gamble that paid off amid a tight budget.

Climate Aid This Giants Tribe Arizona Chests Puff
If both the New York Giants and Cleveland come through in their leagues it will be hard to convince Arizona that something special is in their ozone. Two of the four clubs trained in Arizona would be a strong average for boosters. Baltimore pulled out of Yuma, leaving Cubs in Mesa with Indians and Giants. If Indians and Giants win they may play each other weekly across the west for dollars, unless Arizona lures another club. Florida could end up with all 16 majors.
