Senator Sees Defeat of Foreign Aid Slash
In Washington Senator H Alexander Smith predicts defeat of a plan to cut one to two billion dollars from Eisenhower's 3.3 billion foreign aid program. The House approved a 3.358 billion dollar authorization for the new fiscal year, while debate signals deeper cuts to come when appropriations are voted. Smith and committee actions accompany a provision urging denial of funds to nations joining a proposed nonaggression pact with Asian Communists. The advisory measure would risk recognizing Red China and freezing Communist areas if adopted.
