Calif steel strike idles 4300 workers in protest
In California the CIO Steel Workers union walkout idled about 4300 workers at Sal's big Columbia Geneva plant and others, halting five open hearths as labor grievances over seniority surface. The strike, extending from Tuesday into Wednesday, saw 700 salaried workers still on site and a union spokesman urging talks to resolve the contract grievances with management.

Japanese to Get 85 U. S. Planes Jan. 15
The Far East Air Force announced that about January 15 the United States will transfer 85 aircraft to the Japanese air force. The delivery includes 63 T6 trainer aircraft, 16 CAB transports, and six T3a jet trainers. The planes are for flight training and are on loan from the U.S.

Former Salon Takes Over Samish Job
Sacramento notes Daniel J. Creedon has taken over part of Arthur H. Samish’s former duties as a liquor lobbyist after resigning his San Mateo County Assembly seat. Creedon will be paid $15,000 plus expenses, a high lobbying salary, during the current session. his attorney says the pay reflects the post. Creedon’s letter of authorization was signed by James G. Hamilton, president of the California State Brewers Institute.
