Senate group pushes broader social security plan
A Senate House group announced a plan to broaden social security to cover 11 million more people with higher retirement benefits and new forms of disability and maternity payments. The plan would tax up to 4800 of earnings for most workers, with 75 monthly earnings exempt, and compute benefits from a worker’s top four earning years. The proposal adds 4 million armed forces members and millions of workers to coverage, while keeping tax rates for most at current levels.
