Municipal Court Revenue Totals for Last Fiscal Year

Long Beach Municipal Court posted 388360.61 dollars in the year ending last July. Ruth M. Bauchet, chief clerk, notes five months of this year show 105101. Fines to city totaled 295597.42 in the year and 66617.37 in five months. County received 2283.50 in fees for the year and 9331.50 in five months. County reimbursement under Act 5238 amounted to 58566 for the year and 24501 from July to November.

Still a winner says family 1906 Roses Queen recall

In 1906 at age 19 Elsie Armitage of Pasadena reigned as queen of the Rose Parade. Her family notes she is still a winner as Fullerton marks the 46th Tournament of Roses with memories of decorating floats and bicycle-strewn preparations. She later married J A Prizer and settled in Fullerton, with five children and eight grandchildren, one son lost in World War II.

Vending Machine Tax Ban In Signal Hill

A temporary restraining order prevents Signal Hill from collecting $10 annual licenses on 14 cigarette machines run by Long Beach Cigarette Service Inc. Judge Joseph M. Maltby scheduled a Jan. 7 hearing in Superior Court Department D. The Cigarette Service alleges the Nov 23 ordinance is discriminatory and confiscatory since the small machine profit cannot cover the tax. Desmond and Besmond prepared the complaint.

Lynn Bari Begins 1952 Free of Matrimonial Ties

Actress Lynn Bari obtained a final decree of divorce from Sid Yuft, a theatrical agent and former test pilot, and won custody of their son John. The decree provides $3500 monthly for one year and 10 percent of Yuft's earnings thereafter with a $300 minimum, following an intersocutory decree issued December 26, 1950. Luft has been linked to Judy Garland in recent months. Bari and Yuft married in 1943, Bari previously wed Walter Kane.

Welfare agencies report rising need across child and youth services

The report notes 1303 single men arrived in Long Beach with 40 percent unemployable and a 4.3 percent increase over 1930. Day Nurseries served 221 children daily though space and staff limited expansion. Red Feather agencies aided 19,000 children monthly in youth services as recreation groups supported welfare work and free camp scholarships.
