King George VI is carried to Windsor in a somber cortege drawing over a million mourners through central London. 150 sailors pull the gun-carriage coffin past royal guards under rain and sun as Queen Elizabeth II and others follow to St. George’s Chapel.
In Parkerburg West Virginia a 58 year old woman Mrs Mary Morehead describes laying outside in rain and snow for two days and two nights after a heavy metal fence case fell on her breaking her hip as she sought her sister's home over the weekend. She huddled in a heavy coat and prayed for help while her husband and son thought she had reached her destination. Doctors expect Mrs Morehead to recover.
Elizabeth II, at 28, led Britain's final homage to George VI after a 214 hour public procession. Millions lined London streets as the queen rode behind the coffin, then saw her father laid to rest in Windsor's royal crypt. The princess and Duke of Edinburgh shared a brief moment with the queen mother before departing.

About $8000 was taken and loaded into a white sack before the car fled down the street and was later found abandoned nearby. The Army said California's 40th National Guard and other National Guard and Organized Reserve units called up after the Korea outbreak will be released individually starting next month. Releases will generally occur after 20 to 24 months of duty and only if a qualified replacement is available. About 323,000 men are affected, with exceptions for antiaircraft units. Early releases will begin with four divisions and two regimental combat teams called to federal service after Korea’s outbreak, including the 28th Division, the 43rd, the 40th, and the 45th.
Allied heavy guns bombarded Communist positions in eastern Korea for over an hour as MIG conflicts and air sorties shaped a major ground clash near Mundung Valley. Fifth Air Force reported 289 sorties to curb Red supply lines while commanders claimed Red losses were very heavy after a 49 minute battle.

A Chinese cook Donald Lum aged 38 went on a shooting spree in San Francisco killing five people including his estranged wife May Lum and her mother Sirs Nip Lee and later Fred O Yang and his wife Rose. Lum also killed three year old Terry O Yang before taking his own life as his daughter Sandra pleaded with him not to shoot. She described clinging to his coat as he fired.

The Civil Service Commission found 13 Internal Revenue Bureau employees in Massachusetts guilty of Hatch Act violations and ordered suspensions from 90 days to six months. Assistant Collector John E. Burns and Chief Office Deputy Jeremiah W. Taylor of the Boston office were suspended for six months without pay. Five others faced no action due to lack of evidence.
