Navy to Promote 2500 Ensigns to Lieutenant (jg) Jan 1
The U S Navy will promote about 2500 ensigns to lieutenant junior grade on January 1. The promotion will be automatic for other ensigns reaching 18 months of service and a new order lowers the time in grade for promotion from 24 to 18 months. Promotions apply to regular Navy and Naval Reserve on extended active duty with commissions issued Jan 1 to July 1, 1952. Ensigns and lieutenants (jg) must meet physical and professional requirements. The Davis rider to the Appropriations Act does not cover these promotions above the first two grades.

Army Reserve promotions revised under new in grade rules
The Army issued new rules for reserve officer promotions not on active duty. Promises include set time in grade: first lieutenants three years to captain, captains seven years to major, and subsequent steps with discharges or retirement if not promoted. Promotions to colonel and general depend on vacancies and selection boards. Officers in units may rise faster, while nonunit officers face strict seniority and total commissioned service requirements.
