Sparkman urges objective housing probe in Senate
Sen. Sparkman of Alabama proposed a continuing and objective study of government housing programs while opposing a probe aimed at “dragging out dead carcasses.” He spoke after a 140 page summary praised and criticized FHA programs, noting windfall profits and misrepresentation by builders and officials. He urged an absolutely objective staff and warned against witch hunts, amid debate over fixing loopholes and mortgage insurance costs.
