Jury Undecided as Dr Sheppard Faces Deadlock

Four killed in Tahoe area home fire

In Kings Beach Lake Tahoe area a early morning blaze destroyed a summer resort home killing a family of four. Constable Richard A Lavey identified the deceased as Roy Zelta 33 Elizabeth 34 and their sons Peter 6 and Tommy 3. Fire crews were alerted at 4 30 am and arrived to find the house engulfed.

Four Arrested in Torrance Narcotic Raid

Torrance deputies say a narcotics ring with teenage clientele was dismantled with four arrests Friday night. Jerry Eugene Codd, 21, and Donald Lee White, 23, led the operation, with 1,000 benzedrine tablets and 23 cans of marijuana found in Codd’s home, plus 15,000 benzedrine tablets in a crib chest. White’s later search yielded 300 benzedrine tablets and a can of marijuana. Norval L. Wood, 20, and Leake, 21, were taken into custody as investigators uncovered stockpiled drugs and photos of a clandestine marijuana grow operation. Evidence suggested Codd and White partnered in marijuana and barbiturate sales in the area. Continued details expected.

Car Hits Train Injuring Teens After Football Game

In Paducah Texas a car collided with a moving freight train near the depot. Three teenagers died and two were injured. A second car struck the train but its occupants escaped unharmed. The victims were Billy Ted Tomison 16 Jerry Hamilton 16 and Weeva Hamilton 13 siblings. Injured were Jackie Bearcen 16 and Linda Joyce Tomison Billy Ted’s sister.

One Killed Two Hurt in Traffic Accidents

A Long Beach pedestrian died and two others are critically injured in separate crashes. Mary E. Robb, 76, was hit while crossing Livingston Drive near Xime no Avenue and died at Community Hospital. Driver Marsha L Hurley, 16, was not detained. Gilbert E Sendrigas, 20, suffered severe brain injuries from a hit and run on Pacific Coast Highway near Judson Avenue and remains unconscious at Seaside Hospital. Police arrested George Edgars Milges, 10, for felony drunken driving, felony hit and run, and possible weapons possession.

Two Ships Hit In Delaware Channel Fog and Rain

In thick fog and driving rain, a collision occurred in the Delaware River channel at 8 02 a m about 28 miles off Cape May involving the 10334 ton tanker Atlantic Cape Town and the 5383 ton United Pruit freighter Maya. No cargo aboard and no serious injuries reported. The tanker with crew of 42 was described as an Atlantic Refining Co unit capable of hauling 4200000 gallons of crude oil. A fire on the tanker was extinguished by crew and Coast Guardsmen aboard the cutter Zinnia. The Maya, with a 51 crew, rode out the rough seas nearby under Captain James Kerr of Yonkers New York.

Bandits Take $1100 From Village Liquor Store

Elmer Klamroth reports two heavily armed bandits robbed the Village Liquor Store at 4133 Norse Way at 1 30 am today. The suspects pointed revolvers, demanded money, and fled in a car after Klamroth opened the cash register. He described them as poorly dressed, stocky men in old clothes.

Five Rescued From Bay at Idlewild Airport Crash

An Italian airliner carrying 31 people crashed after attempting to land at Idlewild Airport near Jamaica Bay. Five occupants were rescued from the bay waters amid confusion over casualties.
