Eisenhower sends felicitations to Iran Shah after Mossadegh overthrow

President Eisenhower publicly congratulated Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi on Iran’s royalist overthrow of Mossadegh and sent a friendly message stressing goodwill and Iran’s prosperity. Hagerty noted the note did not rule out U S aid, while the Shah in Teheran said Iran was broke and open to help from any contributor. He stressed no concessions in return.

Yachtsman Charged With Unemployment Fraud

William Braden Boon, 38, famed yachtsman of Wilmington and Glendale, is charged by County Prosecutor Kenneth Sutherland with accepting state unemployment insurance payments while employed. A warrant will be issued for Boon’s arrest after state investigator Conrad Christensen provided information. Boon allegedly collected $925 since February 1952 while working for a local water taxi company during periods of nonavailability for work, claiming to be a personnel manager and master of the 70-foot schooner Lady Ada, which he lists as his residence when berthed at Stillwell Lighthouse Yacht Landing in Wilmington. His home is Glendale. Boon skippered the Lady Ada in the Newport Harbor Ensenada race last April.

Bishop, 29, a veteran of World War II and Korea, served in the Navy in World War I era and joined the Army in 1950, later serving in Korea with the Second Infantry Division.

Soldier admits killing state official after ride

AWOL Harold T. St. John, 25, Dorchester Mass., admitted shooting Joseph W. Harding 52, assistant director of the Ohio Industrial Relations Department, after a struggle during a robbery near a motel on US 40 west of Zanesville. Cpl. C F Wells captured him following the slaying. St John escaped from Camp Svterbery and forced the driver to take him toward Indianapolis.

India Fails to Win U.N. Support for Korean Peace Seat

All-Out Effort to Halt Blaze Near Rim of the World

A 3500-acre forest fire raged up the San Bernardino Mountains within a mile of Rim of the World Highway threatening Lake Arrowhead resort area. Firefighters from Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties battled two fronts with 500 men and a 150-man task force at Bayliss Park.
