In a Communist sparked labor wave, about one million workers in publicly owned industries walked out halting rail and disrupting postal, telecom, and gas services. The seventh day of protests against Premier Lanier's economy decrees left tourists stranded and ports partially stopped as cabinet ministers met to countermove the crisis.
Tokyo reports that over 100000 Japanese workers under U S military oversight threaten a 48 hour nationwide strike against a new labor contract offered by American forces. Two unions representing about 125000 members reaffirmed the action, and leaders told Labor Minister Zentaro Kosaka the strike would start at 6 am Wednesday.

Five people were burned to death in a flaming wreck after a head on collision between a car and a truck 27 miles west of Texarkana. The victims were burned beyond recognition and identifications were not yet established. The truck driver escaped with minor injuries.

The AFL executive council voted to recommend suspending the International Longshoremen's Association from AFL affiliation.
