Missing Missouri girl found on Mt Evans in Colorado search ends

An 11 year old Col deen Patton from Clifton Hills Missouri was found unharmed after more than 26 hours lost in rugged Mt Evans terrain near Georgetown Colorado. Sheriff James Snera said she appeared safe as over 60 searchers and a helicopter scoured the area at around 11 000 feet where the search focused amid timber bogs and sheer rock faces.

Atom Power for U S in 15 Years Seen by Expert

Dr James A Lane of Oak Ridge Tenn says large scale nuclear power may rival coal electricity in the U S within 15 to 20 years. He spoke at the Atoms for Peace Conference before 72 nations, noting the outlook is very promising based on current data.

County OKs 1 Per Cent Sales Levy

The Board of Supervisors approved a 1 percent countywide sales tax to take effect April 1, projecting about nine million dollars in annual revenue. City plans in Long Beach and Lakewood to follow with similar 1 percent taxes, with Lakewood considering Oct 15 adoption. City Manager Vickers cited loss of gas and air revenues as a reason for Long Beach. Nuclear power cost projections discussed, with ranges of four to seven mills per kilowatt hour possible within 13 to 20 years.

Rocket Plane on B29 Explodes During High Altitude Test

Edwards California reports a Bell X-14 rocket plane dropped from a B-29 during a high altitude test. Pilot Joseph A. Walker 34 assisted after the explosion while the damaged B-29 avoided landing. The X-14 held speed and altitude records in NACA tests.

Finns to Be Released on Parole Wednesday

The flying Finn twins Charles and George Finn, 41, imprisoned for one year for interfering with a federal officer, will be released on parole Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. from Terminal Island. They were flown from a Springfield Missouri medical facility and are expected to arrive before moon Wednesday. The twins, veterans of the Air Force Berlin Airlift, had been confined since April 22 and faced a federal sentence dated January 27, 1954. Previously a parole hearing was held without their request.

U S employment hits record near sixty five million

Washington AP reports July brought a new all time high of 64,995,000 employed and 2,471,000 jobless. Brisk hiring of youths released from school boosted totals while adult employment stayed strong across industries. Unemployment fell 290,000 from June and was nearly a million lower than a year ago.
