Nesting killdeer stalls harbor paving work
A mother killdeer nests in rocks near a planned harbor area paving job, distracting survey crews with noisy feints to protect the nest. Harbor workers hope she hatches and moves, allowing construction to proceed while authorities note sympathetic, hesitant behavior. Local notes recount a children's cot campaign, hotel district night lighting for a TV shoot, a Red Cross canvassing mix up, and a telegramee who signs off with a large monetary sum.
