Equalization Board Officials Praise Out-of-State Audit
Sacramento official Dixwell L. Pierce lauds the states out-of-state audit program as extremely successful at a Fourth District conference in the Lafayette Hotel. He notes California maintains permanent tax audit offices in New York City and Chicago, employing about 100 staff to audit national firms. He adds eastern offices outperform local ones per audit hour but stresses only a small portion of total tax in dollars comes from these audits, as big-volume businesses base HQs in the east.
