Knight Warns California Tax Plan Needed to Avert Insolvency
Gov. Knight told Commonwealth Club officials California faces insolvency without tax action. He warned deficits of 100 million dollars in 1955-56, 138 million the next year, and 160 million the following year unless his four luxury tax proposals pass. He urged higher taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products, beer, liquor, and horse racing.
