About $40,000 of Salk polio vaccine will be allotted to Long Beach to inoculate 10,000 first and second graders. Dr. J. D. Litwack says vaccine could arrive by Sunday for Monday’s start with a refrigerated truck standing by. Public and parochial schools begin inoculations Monday with private schools following Tuesday at the health department center. Make-up shots offered April 26 or 28 for absentees.

An auto crashed into the living room of Ernest Anderson and wife at 3901 Cherry Ave. The driver, Joseph Cunningham, 34, of Downey, suffered a fractured nose and cuts and was taken to Seaside Hospital for observation. The car created a 10 by 8 foot hole and stopped six feet inside the room. Mrs. Anderson, 53, was distressed and a physician was called. she later felt better.
Seismologists report a high intensity earthquake possibly centered in Outer Mongolia. The Central Meteorological Observatory notes shocks lasting about ninety minutes with readings near 8 on a 1 to 8 scale. No confirmed damage details are provided.
