Hearsay Evidence in Hallner Trial
Los Angeles Superior Court will rule today on hearsay evidence that could affect Herbert Hallner's bribery case. Hallner, former chief investigator for the State Bar, is accused of offering bribes to city officials while claiming he was probing the conduct of Assistant City Attorney Boyd Taylor and John J. Irvin, then president of the Police Commission. Charles A. Prince testified of a meeting involving Hallner and Taylor, noting a remark from Taylor to him after Balmer arrived. The prosecution objected to admitting the remark as hearsay. Judge Iwuduze Allen T. Lynch urged a ruling today.
