42 Month Sentence For Threatening the President
An unemployed Biloxi man, James L. Winterstein, 32, was sentenced to 42 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to writing a threatening letter to President Eisenhower. He claimed ignorance of the threat, saying he was an alcoholic treated in VA hospitals. The letter, written in a Mobile tavern and mailed Feb 20, stated I am going to kill you and I mean it. Winterstein was seized by Secret Service agents in Biloxi in March.
