Solar furnace project to harness sun heat for Air Force
The Air Force announced a solar furnace project using mirrors to trap heat and reach up to 8,000 degrees Fahrenheit to advance high-temperature testing. The facility will be built at 9,000 feet in the Sacramento Mountains near Holloman, New Mexico, with Sacramento Peak already hosting a solar observatory. The aim is to provide a practical, magnetic-field-free heat source for military scientific work and foster a regional sun research community.
