Civil War Vet Dies at 107 in Texas
Thomas Evans Riddle, private in the Army of Tennessee, died Friday night at the Texas Confederate Home for Men two weeks before his 108th birthday. He outlived only four Civil War veterans and hoped to reach 110 at his Wichita Falls home. Riddle, who claimed titles as admiral in the Nebraska Navy and colonel in the Confederate Air Force, had five near-death experiences and served 18 months in Co I, 23nd Regiment. He was married three times and survived by three other veterans, with Walter W. Williams as the oldest among the four survivors.
