Actor Horton Dies at 82 in California Home
Hollywood actor Edward Everett Horton, a long time star of theater film and TV, died at 82 at his San Fernando Valley residence after an illness. He had worked in Broadway touring companies and appeared in F Troop as Furious Chicken and other classics. Horton, a lifelong bachelor, had resided in Southern California since 1925.

Another Diphtheria Case in Texas Reported
A 12 year old girl is the 106th confirmed diphtheria case in San Antonio for the year, with Bexar County totaling 108 cases after confirmation by health officials. Thirty nine cases are suspected and 133000 county residents have received two immunizations while 17000 still need the second dose.

Bicycle crash injures teen in Lompoc alley
Frank Edward Polton 15 of 508 N. O St suffered abrasions and cuts after a bicycle collision with Eldridge Washington Cox 47 of 5218 S. F St in an alley south of West Ocean Avenue. He was treated at Lompoc Hospital then at Vandenberg AFB Hospital and listed in satisfactory condition.

Five boys set fire near Vandenberg Village County Club
County fire officials report five boys ages 10 to 13 poured gasoline in a field near Vandenberg Village County Club and briefly ignited it. Firemen quickly extinguished the blaze, which reignited before being put out again. No damage occurred and arson officials planned talks with the youths and their parents as tinder dry conditions raised fire risk.

Signup set for swimming at municipal pool classes
Registration for swim classes at the municipal pool will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 105 S. C Street. Printing ban lifted on Santa Barbara County ballots
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge lifted the printing ban for Santa Barbara County General Election ballots and similar county ballots. County Clerk J E Lewis said he could not prevent the printing of over 113000 sample ballots, already started under secretary of state sanction. Lewis awaited further court action and was served with a writ by Richard Nevins, a Democratic candidate for reelection to the Board of Equalization.
