Lompoc Gravediggers Still Using Picks and Shovels
Kenneth Kane is a longtime gravedigger at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery where three workers still rely on picks and shovels though automatic units exist nearby. The crew handles 34 by 7.8 foot and 37 by 7.10 foot graves five feet deep with precise measurements to fit pre cast walls. Interments average 115 to 120 annually, and the 20 acre plot has room to spare with undeveloped acreage and a long history dating to the 1870s.
