The Lompoc Planning Commission voted 5-0 to ask the Alcohol Beverage Control commission to reject Freddy Fast Gas Service Station at 1216 E Ocean Ave for selling beer and wine from an unused lot. City Attorney Longtin warned the use is not permitted under Highway Commercial rules and a conditional use permit may be required. Police and city staff oppose mixing alcohol with gasoline and worry about crowds of young motorists at the station.

Skylab 2 Astronauts Return After 59 Days in Space
The Skylab 2 crew Alan Bean Owen Garriott and Jack Lousma splash down in the Pacific at 6 20 p m EDT ending a 59 day mission. They undocked from Skylab and returned aboard the Apollo with the USS New Orleans on station 224 miles southwest of San Diego. Dangerous dynamite cache hunted in Isla Vista garage
Santa Barbara authorities sought a deteriorating dynamite cache in a university area garage. Sheriff John Carpenter urged Isla Vista residents to aid in locating the site after a resident turned over two sticks and described 12 dynamite cases and grenades in the garage.

Derailment Near Guadalupe Involves SP Freight Trains
A Southern Pacific freight train rammed another from behind at a siding near Guadalupe on Monday, derailing four cars and injuring two crewmen. Conductor Robert Quigley suffered head and arm injuries. crewman E L McCrary had minor injuries. Both were taken to Marion Hospital in Santa Maria.
