County list of management employees under fire

County Supervisors debated a list of designated management and confidential employees submitted by County Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson on Oct. 9. Union leaders argued the list is too broad and could sow distrust among workers. a county counsel report on legal aspects was ordered.

Feasibility study ordered for Alisal Ranch project

The county Office of Environmental Quality must report by Oct 9 on the feasibility and cost of a broad environmental impact report for the Alisal Ranch residential recreational project and other valley developments. Supervisor Slater urged a wider impact review beyond the applicant’s report. Petan Co. seeks amendments for up to 850 housing units on 10,000 acres near Solvang plus a golf course and resort facilities.

California and New York gas stations shut in Phase IV protest

California and New York dealers closed most stations Monday to protest the Phase IV price freeze. President Nixon pressed the Cost of Living Council for a quick lift decision while dealers blamed the policy for fuel shortages and customer disruption. In Northern California 75 percent of stations were closed and up to 90 percent during the weekend. In Syracuse 65 Mobil dealers halted pumps over a one cent price increase they could not pass on to customers.

Allan Hancock College enrollment may reach record in fall 1973

Enrollment at Allan Hancock College stood at 7 379 students in 903 classes across five locations as of Sept 18, up from 6 794 in Fall 1972. Dr William H Houpt cautioned figures may change in three weeks but Census Week on Oct 8 could surpass last fall. Mosaic Lodge 109 Dedicated in Lompoc Amid Masonic Installations

Mosaic Lodge 109 of Lompoc was dedicated in the Veterans Memorial Building with Roy M. Moore of California’s Prince Hall Masons officiating. Officers and master masons from across the state attended as the lodge begins with community service and social roles, followed by a Rough Ashlar Social Club dance to music by the Master Plan from San Bernardino.
