Accident at H Street ends with two injuries

S Sgt Dale Wileman was hurt in a three car crash at H Street and North Avenue at night. Lawrence Heidlebaugh and Ruth McCrea, drivers of the other cars, escaped injury and were treated per police report. Wiseman was taken to the base hospital.

Detroit UPI reports striking United Auto Workers members at General Motors began extending their last full pay, with an average gross of 196 dollars before deductions. Next week adds only pay for the prior Monday, as strike benefits of 30 to 40 dollars start September 29.

Nixon delays rail strike for 60 days

President Nixon used the Railway Labor Act to appoint an emergency board to investigate a wage dispute involving four unions and railroads, delaying a nationwide strike for 60 days but a separate dispute over diesel locomotives remains a separate threat with a potential strike after September 23.
