Solvang Hosts Danish Days Festival Weekend
Solvang prepares for its annual Danish Days with a 25 000 to 30 000 guest turnout over Saturday and Sunday. The 58 year old Danish American community features Aebleskiver breakfasts and a parade themed Down Memory Lane with 45 entries. Events include Alice in Wonderland performances, Danish folk dancing, Viking Squares, and a Sunday polka contest concluding the festival.

Rain delays Santa Ynez High School building project
Heavy rainfall last week set back about two days the $2.8 million construction program at Santa Ynez Valley High School. The building corporation met Tuesday night and heard that a 12 by 12 foot walk in refrigerator had been installed in the cafeteria. Nancy Deeter will become secretary to the corporation on September 27. Dr Louis Busony was named bond sales proxy and Mrs Donald Hughes as alternate.

Laubach literacy tutor workshop to start in Solvang
A two week Laubach Literacy program tutor training begins Monday in Solvang and runs through Oct 1. Santa Ynez Valley Literacy Council presents the course led by Harriet Van Pelt, with a $6 fee offset by a donation from the Santa Ynez Valley Woman's Club. Volunteers of any age can participate after 30 hours of training, working 9 am to noon, Monday through Friday in the Veterans Memorial Building.

Farm adviser begins sabbatical in New Zealand
Santa Barbara County farm adviser Marvin J. Synder begins a nine month sabbatical in Auckland working with the Crops Research Division of the Department of Industrial and Scientific Research. He will study artichoke broccoli cauliflower and strawberry propagation including meristem culture and greenhouse techniques. Warren Bendixon handles weed control fertilizers irrigation and soils in his absence and Judy Gafney a Cal Poly student will carry on trial work with UC cooperation.
