Lompoc Council Probes Electing Mayor by Vote

Council member Richard Jacoby urged council to study the idea of electing the mayor by popular vote. A league meeting in San Francisco was proposed to discuss procedures and duties, with a possible ballot change at the next April election and a mayoral position on the following election. The council set October 7 for a public hearing on a business license ordinance and began drafting it for next year's effect. The zoning definition of family was amended over Jacoby's objections, and a water district request was approved. Bill Rule of the Lompoc Babe Ruth League received a certificate of appreciation for youth cooperation.
