Haynsworth denies conflict in Senate hearing
Judge Clement F. Haynsworth Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee there is no conflict of interest in his nomination to the Court. He said a 1963 ruling on an unfair labor practice case involving a textile firm had no link to his involvement with a vending machine company. He noted the contracts earned the company about $100 000 that year, and asserted the textile men did not know of his association. He was joined by Sen. Hollings and Sen. Thurmond in Washington.
