President Ford told the Chicago Sun Times he may restrict covert CIA political activities overseas and shift some functions to another agency as part of a broader CIA reorganization. He declined to detail realignments but said a decision would come in a package of recommendations. Ford defended past CIA roles while acknowledging strong opinions on changes. He cited Portugal as not reflecting U.S. policy elsewhere and noted potential future covert actions remain possible. He also described the Egypt Israel peace process as a real breakthrough and momentum toward a final settlement.
