Should we smile while getting jobbed in Munich loss
UPI sports writer Milton Richman reflects on American reactions to the Olympic loss to Russia, arguing Americans overreact to defeats. He cites coach Hank Iba, referee protest at the game, and veteran official Frank Lane calling for sportsmanship and acceptance of silver medals. Training tips from Tony Trabert and Joe Hyams on the half volley. The guide explains when to use the shot, how to position the body, and how to swing parallel to the ground with a short backswing. It advises aiming to keep contact low and shallow and to stay out of trouble by directing the ball deep or soft depending on opponents' positions.
County Parks Commission votes to raise lake boat and day use fees
The County Parks Commission backs higher Lake Cachuma boat licenses from eight to ten dollars a year and a ten dollar day use fee, with partial reductions later in the year. Assistant Park Director estimates about forty thousand dollars in 1973 versus twenty nine thousand this year. The proposal also separates the two charges for day use and camping from January first, 1973, aligning with state park fees.
