South Vietnamese Marines secured a sector near the Citadel at Quang Tri City and prepared to advance further north as Communist resistance was reported at its lowest in three months. Government forces claimed gains, while other Communist attacks targeted coastal outposts.
Field officers told UPI correspondent Barney Seibert that Communist resistance in Quang Tri has reached its lowest ebb since government troops launched a counteroffensive on June 28. Paratroop officers quoted prisoners saying their commanders expect to return to the North in November, coinciding with the U.S. presidential elections.
On the Air Forces 25th anniversary at Vandenberg AFB the base presses on with ongoing missile programs. Leadership notes continued development since Camp Cooke became a launch site in 1956, with Thor launches marking rapid early progress and a culture of advancing missile techniques.
Kampala reports routing an invading force of 1500 Ugandan exiles from Tanzania. Bombers hit Bukova near Lake Victoria with unconfirmed deaths. Ugandan tanks, infantry and paratroopers retook three towns, with 200 enemy killed and nine Ugandan soldiers dead.
Reports from Lissan Al-Hal and Al Nahar describe Israeli 36 hour incursions into southern Lebanon with death toll estimates ranging from hundreds to about 80. The attacks damaged towns, water systems, and triggered cross border fire with Syria on the Golan Heights as Lebanon’s government and Palestinian groups respond.

Some work will be done at Grumman Bethpage plant with engineers temporarily reassigned to Downey headquarters.
