The Department of Fish and Game reports hunters may see better prospects in northern Cascade and Sierra areas while Mono Inyo and west slope in south central Sierra lag. Deer are in good to excellent condition across regions due to abundant forage and water from heavy winter and spring rains. County by county, 13 areas show improved prospects, 10 similar to last year, and 10 poorer. 1968 kill was 51 706 by tags and 121 000 by hunter questionnaire, with late seasons making up 60 to 65 percent of annual harvest.
