Rams Nip 49ers In Blood Bath

Californian wins world drag title at Sacrament o Raceways

Kelly Brown of Wilmington California won the NHRA world champion drag racing meet at Sacramento Raceway. He took top fuel eliminator honors defeating Don Argee of Sacramento and set a Sacramento quarter mile elapsed time record of 6.88 seconds. Jim Warren of Bakersfield posted the event's top speed at 223 mph. Bengals honor Buncom with dramatic season opener win

The Cincinnati Bengals upset the Miami Dolphins 27-21 as they paid tribute to 29-year-old linebacker Frank Buncom who died of a heart attack earlier that day. Buncom, USC product and three-time all-league lineman with the Chargers, spent the last two seasons with Cincinnati. The AFL season opener also saw the Jets roll the Bills 33-19, the Raiders top the Oilers, and Kansas City beat San Diego.
