County board denies retirement pay hike for pre-1973 retirees
More than 300 county employees who retired before January 1, 1973, lost a bid to raise their retirement pay by about seven percent through recalculating benefits. The board unanimously rejected the request citing added costs of 51 000 for the fiscal year and 68 000 retroactive, to be borne by taxpayers.

Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Newhart Family Mission Chapel in Santa Maria for 4 year old Carol Yvonne Wied who died Saturday in Denver after a rare liver transplant. Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St Mary of the Assumption Church followed by burial at Santa Maria Cemetery. Carol born July 13 1973 in Santa Barbara had traveled between Nipomo and Denver for tests and operations. Survivors include her parents Marlene and Dennis Wied of Nipomo a brother David of Nipomo paternal grandparents Lindsey of Lompoc Wied of Seattle and Ularte of Nipomo maternal grandparents Ularte. Memorials may go to the Carol Wied Memorial Fund for Transplantation Purposes Wells Fargo Bank Santa Maria 93454.

County hails fire guards deal with state for 1977 78
