Fate of bargaining bill for public workers unsure
Sacramento California public workers could gain bargaining rights under SB167 but Governor Brown has not committed to signing. The bill would allow teachers and other school staff to choose a single bargaining union and set contracts with a three member Educational Employment Relations Board to oversee mediation. Support comes from CTA CFT and school groups while Brown opposes piecemeal reforms.

Bill would close tax loophole in California
UPI reports a bill AB1206 approved 24-11 by the Senate would cut by 25 million dollars a year a preferred income tax shelter used by wealthy taxpayers. It aims to close loopholes cited by Gov Brown to curb special privileges for big business and high earners. Former Gov Reagan allegedly used the shelter as a gentleman farmer to reduce state taxes in 1971.
